I didn’t arrive at this work through a straight line — I arrived through an awakening.
In my thirties, while many of my peers were confidently climbing career ladders, I was quietly afraid of getting stuck. I dreamed of becoming a writer and speaker who could impact women’s lives, but I believed the “safe” path to credibility was earning a Ph.D. If I had the title, I told myself, I would finally be enough.
So I sacrificed — time, money, energy — building a prestigious academic career while raising two children. On paper, I was accomplished. Inside, I felt disconnected. My identity had been shaped by expectations and self-doubt, not self-trust.

Everything shifted when my teenage son struggled with addiction and mental health challenges. As a single mother navigating crisis, I faced the most painful decision of my life — sending him to treatment. The shame was crushing. How could I be a maternal mental health scholar when I felt like I had failed at mothering?
That breaking point became my turning point.
Through radical self-honesty and fierce self-examination, I reclaimed my inner authority. From that transformation, the Savage Self-CareTM Framework was born — guiding high-achieving women out of external validation and into unapologetic self-trust. The framework also guides my work with couples who struggle to have a harmonious relationship without sacrificing their own identity and needs.
